Expert guidance

We realize that individuals have wide-ranging financial needs. For many people, providing financial security for those they care about is a major concern. For some individuals, accumulating substantial wealth or preserving it, is a primary objective. Still, others want to create an estate plan and fund it. Business owners may want to ensure that what they have built can pass smoothly from one generation to the next. Preparing for your financial future in any of these situations can be complex. It is important to have the help of highly trained and experienced professionals.

Community focus

ribbon cutting photoOne of the most rewarding aspects of our workplace is our commitment to bettering the lives of others. With that in mind, we have put our collective efforts behind Northwestern Mutual Foundation's national philanthropic program to combat childhood cancer. Our vision is simple: the world without childhood cancer. Our mission is to support children and their families facing the daily struggles of this disease and help accelerate the cure to childhood cancers.

In September 2015, we funded the remodeling of a new teen lounge to improve the life and health of patients at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. The new, warmer design, resembles a coffee shop or lounge, with the intention of easing stress and supporting the overall health and well-being of teen patients. The remodeled space includes a large flat-screen HDTV, egg-shaped reading chairs and an air hockey and pool table.

gala photoIn June 2015, we hosted "A Night to Fight Childhood Cancer," an inaugural gala and silent auction, to raise funds for research and support to families battling childhood cancer. The gala celebrated the courageous children and their families, who are fighting the daily battle against cancer, and highlighted the impactful work of charities and hospitals that build hope and community awareness for the disease. We raised over $250,000 through ticket sales and auction items, which benefitted three organizations - Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, and the GameChanger Charity.

Every year, members of our organization impact the fight against childhood cancer by raising funds for life-saving research during the “Annual Race for Research” in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since 2013, we have raised over $20,000 through this race. The donation, which was made to Alex's Lemonade Stand, has funded over 400 hours of research. Click here to learn how you can help.

Individually, whether we serve on a board, coach or tutor, we are passionate about our philanthropic activities. In 2016, we became proud recipients of Northwestern Mutual’s Regional Childhood Cancer Impact Award, an honor bestowed upon on us on both the National and Regional levels in the past. This award, from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation, recognizes our representatives and staff for exemplary service and community involvement efforts to fund childhood cancer research and support families battling the disease in the Los Angeles area.

Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion is part of every aspect of Northwestern Mutual's downtown Los Angeles office. We strive for a community that fosters personal and intellectual growth by bringing together financial representatives, advisors, specialists, and staff from different backgrounds and perspectives to engage in a mutual exchange of ideas and experiences.

As part of our ongoing strategic focus on diversity and inclusion, in 2014 our Downtown Los Angeles office welcomed Luis Cachua as Director of Multicultural Markets to develop our Hispanic-integrated marketing initiatives.

Leading in these efforts, Northwestern Mutual's downtown Los Angeles office has partnered with Dr. Yasmin Davidds, founder of the Women's Institute of Negotiation and the Latina Global Executive Leadership Academy, to aid in the development and empowerment of Latina entrepreneurs throughout Los Angeles County. The Latina Entrepreneur Program is co-sponsored and hosted in partnership with the USC Marshall School of Business and the USC Latino Alumni Association. We are a proud sponsor of the Latina Global Executive Leadership Academy's 2016 Scholarship and Awards Gala.

In September 2016, we hosted the Third Annual Hispanic Affinity Summit in Dallas, Texas. The Affinity Summit brought together Hispanic financial representatives, non-Hispanics that are active in the market, and field leaders for a focused day and a half of learning and networking.

In June 2016, we were a supporting sponsor of the NLWBA Latinas Business Awards. The event served as a celebration of Latina leaders in the Los Angeles business community who have been recognized by their peers for their outstanding work.

In June 2016, we were also the signature sponsor of the first NLWBA Latina Golfers Association Business Golf Tournament. The first annual event was developed to expose more Latina women and Latino leaders to the sport of golf.

In May 2016, we partnered with the Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce and City of Los Angeles to host more than 200 business owners and community leaders to present the Chambers latest Latino Consumer Spending impact report.

In April 2016, we were a supporting sponsor of the 2016 Los Angeles Times Multicultural Business Forum series. The forum provided attendees with free business counseling, financial advice, and information on starting, improving, and expanding a small business.

In March 2016, we represented Northwestern Mutual by speaking at the HOPE Latina History Day Conference in Los Angeles.

In October 2015, we interrupted midterms at the Occidental College campus as they hosted our third Latino In America stop, which brought about many conversations important to the Latino community.
